Model 362 Gene Scanner, by Applied Biosystems Ltd., 1989
Fragments of DNA are highlighted with fluorescent dyes and placed in this machine, which is known as a Model 362 Fluorescent Fragment Analyser Gene Scanner. Made by Applied Biosystems Ltd., the machine was used to study DNA and genes. It was evaluated for use in early DNA fingerprinting. Using automated machines in laboratory work reduces the chance of human error and is also faster. Applied Biosystems Ltd. donated the machine to the Science Museum’s collections.
