First aid notice, cardboard, English, 1901-1950

Displayed in the workplace, this notice gives contact details and basic information and procedures, should first aid be required. In the final decades of the 1800s, employers were increasingly made aware of their responsibilities in regard to workers’ welfare, although the provision of first aid in the workplace was only made a legal requirement under the Health and Safety Act of 1976.

The sign was almost certainly hung in premises belonging to the Wellcome Drug company. The notice mentions “tabloid manufacturing”, which was a Wellcome drug making process and the company had facilities in Temple Hill, Dartford, which is also mentioned on the sign.
