Medal: Ziel Erkannt-Kraft Gespannt! Germany, 1908. aluminium, 33mm diameter. obverse, relief of Graf Zeppelin HS looking R, legend. reverse, relief of Zeppelin airship above Mainz Cathedral; legend 4-u-5 Aug, 1908 Dauerfahrt Friedrichshafen Mainz 583 klm. Gefragt aus den Resten des Luftschifts Z.4. The LZ 4 was lost after the flight from Friedrichshafen to Mainz when it caught fire. Aluminium medals were believed to have been cast from the wreckage as tokens to those who contributed to a fund to continue Zeppelin production.
