Token. copper, 11mm diameter. Birmingham tradesman's ticket, n.d. [c1795; 1788-1800]. (DH Warwks 482). Issuer W Lutwyche, about 1790. Obverse Figure of Mercury standing on a pedestal with a shield annotated ‘Die sinkr’, and ‘Provincial coins & medals & engraver’. Reverse A coining press, with weighted handles and leather slings: ‘Lutwyches manufactory Birmingham’. Notes Lutwyche was one of the prominent manufacturers of tokens in the late 18th century. The designs on this farthing size token are well executed.
