Token, copper, 28mm diameter. Middlesex token, Tooke, 1794. (DH Mddx 1044a). Issuer Unknown, 1794. Obverse A full face bust of John Horne Tooke. Reverse ‘British Justice Displayed, Erskine Gibbs’ and ‘Nov’r 22. 1794’. Also inscribed are the names of the twelve jurors. Notes Tooke was tried for high treason and acquitted. Erskine and Gibbs were defending lawyers.
