Token, copper, 33mm diameter. Newcastle upon Tyne penny, 1811. Obverse, Geordie brig (collier ship) and coal staithe. Issuer, Bewicke Main Colliery, 1811, 1d. Obverse Ship lying to at a coal staithe, BEWICKE MAIN COLLIERY * 1811 *. Reverse: Legend in centre and round edge ONE PENNY PAYABLE AT NEWCASTLE ON TYNE AND LONDON. Note: Bewicke Main colliery was located at Birtley near Kibblesworth, Durham. Diagonally milled edge. Davis Northumberland 16, Withers 885. Diameter 33 mm.
