Mechanized glass celestial globe with terrestrial globe, made by John Senex, London, England, 1742-1750

Mechanised glass celestial globe with terrestrial globe, 1742-1750. It is a very crudely engraved glass sphere showing the principal stars and figures of the constellations, the celestial equator, polar circles, and tropic circles. The ecliptic is marked with two calendars, the Gregorian and the Julian. At the centre of the sphere is a terrestrial globe, three inches in diameter. The globe is similar to that described by Roger Long in 1742. It is associated with Dr. Stephen Demainbray (1710-1782), a lecturer in experimental philosophy.
