Diamond tipped knives are used during eye surgery to cut the cornea in order to treat cataracts – a clouding of the lens or surrounding tissues. Diamond knives have accurate cutting edges. They are much finer and can cut more smoothly than steel blades thereby causing the least amount of damage to this particularly sensitive area.

Anton Meyer and Co. Ltd produced their first diamond blade surgical knife for eye surgery in 1975. The handle is made from titanium.
