A stereoscopic card by Thomas Skaife showing a shrapnel Shell bursting at Plumstead Marshes during horse artillery practice, dated 4th June 1858. A portrait of the photographer using the patent camera is printed on the back with the inscription 'Shrapnel shell bursting at the butt (above middle target) 1000 yrds from the gun during the R. Horse Artillery practice under Colonel Mande on Plumstead Marshes at 3 1/2 PM 4th June 1858.' Stamped 'By Skaife's Patent Camera' and initialed by the photographer.
