Cardboard box, unopened and wrapped in cellophane. Presumed to be containing a bottle of Glandiposan Forte tablets. The tablets contain the active ingredients thyroid and dexamphetamine sulphate. Thyroid produces an increase in the rate of general which is manifested by as an increase in oxygen consumption and in excretion of nitrogen, calcium and water in the urine and a decrease in body weight. Used in the treatment of obesity, but it is inadvisable unless this is associated with Dexamphetamine sulphate, an anorectic drug, was used as an adjunct in the treatment of obesity. Although it doesn't increase the basal metabolism or nitrogen excretion it enables the patient to accept a restricted diet more readily. Glandiposan tablets are listed in The Extra Pharmacopoeia from 1936-1967. The bottle dates probably from around 1958. Believed to be prescribed as a medication in cases of hypothyroidism.
