Serving bottle, oval shape, of German origin, c. 1700. The latter part of the seventeenth century was a time of technical experimentaion in many European glass-making centres. It was also a rich period in the decorative arts. Glassmakers in northwestern Europe began to develop their own distinctive, indigenous styles.
