Bottle labelled `Tabloid' suphonamide-P in cardboard carton, dummy, by Burroughs Wellcome and Co., London, 1938

This is a rare example of prototype packing for a type of sulphonamide anti-bacterial drug. A handwritten date on the box and bottle shows that the packaging was created in 1938. Sulphonamide-P was another name for sulphonanilamide. The instructions on the box are in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian, illustrating how Burroughs, Wellcome & Co were aiming for and delivering to a global market. The drugs that would eventually have been placed in this packaging were made in Canada.
