Bottle of Minadex syrup

Bottle of Minadex syrup, containing vitamin A and vitamin D, by Glaxo, Glaxo Laboratories Limited, 1960-1985

Launched in 1946 by Glaxo Laboratories Ltd, the orange flavoured Minadex brand syrup was advertised as a ‘reconstructive tonic for children’. Vitamin A helps support the immune system and eye sight and vitamin D supports bone growth by regulating the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body. Vitamin D is known as the 'sunshine' vitamin as sunlight triggers vitamin D production in our skin. In darker months, with less daylight hours, vitamin D production is supported by diet, such as oily fish, and by supplements.
