English walnut homeopathic medicine chest, 1860-1920
Rectangular walnut homeopathic medicine chest with a hinged lid (hinges now missing), a brass lock escutcheon on the front, and a lower drawer fitted with a recessed brass handle. The main compartment contains a double bottle rack with thirty circular apertures for storing bottles or phials upright, together with a rectangular recess at the rear right-hand side. The lower drawer is divided into five compartments; the central and largest compartment retains a fitted leatherette-covered lid with a gilt-stamped inscription reading ‘Lint / and / Oiled Silk’ and a small leatherette pull handle. The interior of the main lid is lined with black leatherette and bears a gilt-stamped maker's mark, now largely obscured by a piece of paper attached over it. English, 1860-1920.
