Model of Javelin fighter aircraft with Firestreak air to air missile attached.

This is a desk-top model of a Gloster Javelin, the first British jet aircraft to use the delta wing design derived from the work of German scientists. The Gloster Javelin was an all-weather fighter designed to destroy enemy bombers. The aircraft was a great success and formed the mainstay of the RAF's fighter force between 1954 and 1968, and served in air forces around the world. Over 400 were built in several versions. The Javelin Mk 7 was armed with the Firestreak air to air missile which used infra-red light to home in on its target.
