Cast iron notice, London & North Western Railway

Cast iron notice, London & North Western Railway, 'Caution, persons trespassing upon the railways...', black letters on cream/white background

Safety notices in the early days of the railways were very specific and often very wordy. This one reads:

CAUTION

Persons trespassing upon the railways belonging to, or leased or worked by, the London and North Western Railway Company, or by that Company and any other Company, and any persons trespassing upon the stations connected with such railways, are liable to a penalty of Forty Shillings, under the London & North Western Railway Additional Powers Act, 1883, and, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act, public warning is hereby given to all persons, not to trespass upon the said railways or stations. By Order.
