Between 1951 and 1960, 999 steam locomotives of 12 standard classes were built for British Railways.

‘Britannia’ was the prototype BR Standard Locomotive. 55 of these successful Class 7 mixed-traffic engines were built from 1951 to 1954, and the last example was withdrawn from service in 1968, the last year of steam on British Railways.

This model was built by H Clarkson & Son of York, a commercial model-making firm who undertook numerous commissions for British Railways in the 1950s and 1960s.
