Coins from the Duke of Northumberland's collection. These are now part of the important Percy Collection. John Percy FRS (1817-1889) collected a vast number of metallurgical specimens which he used for his lectures and publications. Early coins were stamped with various gods and emperors to mark their authenticity.These coins are evidence of the early use of brass.
