Ceramic milk jug, London Midland & Scottish Railway - Dining Cars

Milk jug, ceramic, London Midland & Scottish Railway - Dining Cars, made by Grindley; white, gold rim, pink and green floral border, marked underneath "LMS DINING CARS DEC.1937".

Before convenient packaging was invented, station refreshment rooms and dining cars served food and drink in silverware and fine china. All sets needed to match and could not be used if chipped or incomplete. Cups and crockery were embellished with the company name to help prevent losses and theft.
