Waiting room bench, Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway
Waiting room bench, Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway, wooden bench with green leatherette seat, 'MS & LR' carved on back.
Alternative Interpretation, written by a community member with lived experience of disability, D/deafness and/or neurodivergence, as part of the Curating for Change project: “What beautiful, shiny, chestnut-coloured wood on this bench! I love the feel of the wood and the leather seat. Textures and tactile surfaces like this we notice perhaps more as people with sight loss. I can imagine expectant travellers with their suitcases sat on it, awaiting their train to whisk them away somewhere exciting or even exotic – perhaps their local seaside town for a holiday? I don’t suppose you would get such wonderful pieces of furniture in today’s stations.”
