First sod casket, Hull Barnsley & West Riding Junction Railway, Silver casket inscribed in lid. "Containing a portion of the soil from the first sod cut for the Hull Barnsley & West Riding Junction Railway and Dock, by Lieut. Col. Gerard Smith Chairman of the Company" whose motto "Tenax in fide" [steadfast in faith] is inscribed on lid.
