Medal, George Cross awarded to Driver John Axon for an act of bravery at Chapel-en-le Frith in 1957. Plain silver cross on a blue ribbon. Medal has a central circular medallion in the centre, depicting Saint George slaying the dragon, surrounded by the words "For Gallantry". In the angle of each limb is the royal cypher "GVI". The medal is attached by a ring to a bar, ornamented with laurel leaves, on the ribbon.
