Painting, oils, "Highways of the World", by an unknown artist , about 1905. Depicts the central canal basin at Bowling station and the Caledonian Railway line. In the foreground at right is the track running over the swingbridge spanning the Forth & Clyde canal, receding into the distance with a train approaching. Depicted to the left is the course of the North British line between Glasgow and Helensburgh, with the canal basin in the centre. At right is the Clyde estuary, with a steamship. There is a sailing ship docked in the basin, near to the customs house. The painting is similar to Caledonian Railway photograph SRX375, and was also issued as a postcard. Framed and glazed.
