Painting, gouache on paper, pinned on to canvas, King George V by Moy Thomas, 1927. Depicts the 4-6-0 locomotive moving at speed, with a trail of smoke streaming from the chimney. The firebox glows against a blue sky. Below the image is a designated space for text, on a blue ground. Signed by the artist at bottom left. Original poster artwork for the Great Western Railway poster "Britain's Mightiest". The published poster had the accompanying text "Britain's Mightiest, King George V, The 'Kings' lead for power and speed, Go Great Western". In another version for the American market the text read "New York to London, Fastest route via Plymouth and Great Western Railway". The locomotive carries the bell fitted when it featured in celebrations marking the centenary of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in the United States of America. Unframed.
