Painting, oil on canvas, SS Kirkham Abbey, by Alfred J Jansen, 1908. Depicts the Hull & Netherland Steamship Company passenger ferry SS Kirkham Abbey in a choppy sea, seen from the port side. Smoke is trailing from the ship's single funnel, and it flies the company flag, the Dutch national flag and a red ensign. The Hull & Netherland Steamship Company was a subsidiary of the North Eastern Railway. Signed and dated at bottom right, "A J Jansen, Antwerp '08". Remains of gummed label on the reverse of the stretcher reads "Brown Brothers".
