Poster, Southern Railway, London Town, by Kerry Lee, 1938. Coloured lithograph depicting a pictorial map of central London, with a decorative border. The map features prominent landmarks and has captions for each borough. These are illustrated with humorous cartoons peopled with local and historical characters, and also feature tourists and immigrants. The artist is depicted at work at bottom right. The border has cartoon illustrations of peoples from the colonies of the British Empire. At the top are shields bearing the Union flag and the flags of the Irish Free State and the crosses of St Andrew, St George and St Patrick. At the bottom of the poster is an illustration of the royal procession at the State Opening of Parliament, with the royal carriage. Text in a box at top right reads "London Town, Travel by Southern Railway, Cheap Fares, Electric & Steam, Express services between London & the South & West, When in London travel by underground". Text in a box with a green background at bottom left gives details of London's attractions, and another text box advises that copies of the poster are available for sale. Text in the bottom margin reads "Southern Railway Advertising. Printed in England at the Baynard Press, London. 12 Ad 4658 5000/1938". Format: quad royal. Dimensions: 40 x 25 inches, 1016 x 1270mm.
