Southsea

Poster, London Brighton & South Coast Railway, Southsea, by Guy Lipscombe, about 1910. Coloured lithograph depicting Southsea at night, seen from the sea with warships moored at Spithead in the foreground, and the promenade lit up. Searchlights shine from the ships into the night sky, ending in four vignettes with illustrations of Horndean Woods, The Municipal Pier, Bathing from South Parade and HMS Victory. The railway company name and title are at the top, with additional text giving details of a guide book. An ink stamp at top right reads "Chemins de Fer d'Orleans, Exploitation Publicite, Affichage Authorise". On the reverse, in blue pencil, are the words "Southsea, Angleterre, Capdenac". Format double royal.
