The Best Permanent Way in the World
- artist:
- Norman Wilkinson
Poster, London & North Western Railway, The Best Permanent Way in the World, by Norman Wilkinson, about 1905. Depicts a view of four main line tracks receding into the distance, where a steam train is about to pass beneath a bridge. In the foreground a platelayer's cabin is partially hidden beneath the shadow of an embankment at the left side, alongside two semaphore signals. On either side of the track are lines of telegraph poles. The text reads "L & N W Ry" at top, and "The best permanent way in the world" at bottom. All of the edges of the poster have sustained damage, and the poster has been conserved on linen backing.
