Poster promoting the Yorkshire Coast, by Laura Knight, commissioned and published by the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) in 1929. Knight was one of Britain's most successful artists and the first woman to be elected to the Royal Academy. She was particularly known for her paintings, but also produced posters for railway companies and London Transport. The art critic of the Daily Telegraph described this scene "as a very lively group of athletic nymphs disporting on some Yorkshire beach".

In the inter war years, railway companies, including the LNER, promoted destinations served by their lines knowing that most visitors would travel by rail to reach them. This poster advertises "The Yorkshire Coast" rather than a particular resort such as Whitby, Filey, Bridlington or Scarborough.
