Poster, British Railways (Eastern Region), A Vital Link in the System, Whitemoor Marshalling Yard, by F Donald Blake, 1953. Coloured lithograph depicting an aerial view of Whitemoor Marshalling Yard with steam and diesel locomotives manouvering freight trains made up of vans and wagons. The annotated and numbered illustration includes details of the reception sidings, hump and marshalling yard. There are insets featuring a map of the Eastern Region, and illustrations of the points operator, the retarder and the cut card. Accompanying text reads "Whitemoor Marshalling Yard, a focal point between East England and the North. With 70 miles of sidings and covering 250 acres, Whitemoor handles about 7000 wagons over 24 hours. There are other modern marshalling yards throughout Great Britain.
