Notice, London and Dover Railway, Open throughout, about 1844. Coloured lithograph advertising the opening of the London & Dover Railway. The text is in a circle in the centre, surrounded by another circle with an illustration of a train across the top, a station and tunnel at the mid point, and sailing ships in the English Channel across the bottom. The train includes an open third class carriage and two wagons carrying horse-drawn carriages. The background is a tricolour, in the order red, white and blue rather than the blue, white and red of the French flag. Outside of the circle the red and white bands are striped in a radiating pattern. Text reads "London & Dover Railway. Open throughout. Fast trains continually in communication with rapid steamers to France from the two ports of Folkestone & Dover". Text in bottom margin reads "Engraved and printed by Stephen Sly, 11 Bouverie Street, Fleet Street".
