Slow-action thermometer designed by Stapff & Everett and made by Negretti & Zambra, sealed in a glass sheath and with the bulb insulated by tallow or stearine, with outer copper case, as used by the British Association between 1868 and 1881 to measure the rate at which the temperature of the Earth increases with depth.
