Lotus Sport ATB Mountain Bike, frame moulded at SP aerospace factory, California, assembled by British Eagle Cycles, Wales, 1993.

This is the first production example of the LotusSport Mountain Bike which uses a novel type of carbon-fibre frame.

The frame is a one-piece, hollow, carbon-fibre moulding. It is only 1.5mm think and weighs 1.7kg. The rear fork is designed to flex by up to 12mm of vertical movement to relieve the severe shocks of off-road riding.

Chris Hornzee-Joned, of the firm of SP Systems, designed the frame which is moulded at the SP aerospace factory in California. British Eagle Cycles assemble them into complete machines in Wales and market them under the LotusSport name.
