[Letter] 1829 Mar 17, Liverpool [to] Timothy Hackworth, Railway Office, Darlington / Rob. Stephenson. [3p. on 1 leaf. Letter voices his concerns that 'Engineers who visited the North to ascertain the relative merits of the two systems of Steam machinery now employed on Railways', i.e. stationary engines and locomotive engines, unfairly favoured the former. He therefore requests details of the performance of certain engines in order to strengthen his case for the latter. He adds 'the discussion on the merits of the two systems is yet going on amongst the Directors here'. On SM negs. 436-9/89]
