D.C track relay, 1898
This relay is an example of the type used as the operational component of the D.C. track circuit, to complete the indicating, locking and other controlling circuits employed in automatic signalling.
Early experiments with the D.C. track circuit took place in this country about 1860, but it was first used successfully as a closed circuit in the U.S.A. in 1872.
