Model of Santos-Dumont's Monoplane 'Demoiselle'

Model, scale 1:10, Santos-Dumont's monoplane 'Demoiselle'

The Demoiselle attracted a small but enthusiastic group of pilots. It has been called the first light aircraft. The fuselage consists of three bamboo poles, while the tail is mounted on a universal joint, moving up and down or side to side for elevator and rudder control. Roll control was achieved by wing-warping, controlled by a lever attached to the pilot's jacket so that leaning to left or right caused the aircraft to bank in the same direction.
