Model of Dornier "Wal" Flying Boat, scale 1:20.

This model shows the developed form of the Dornier "Wal" (whale) twin-engined, all-metal boat-seaplane as constructed for commercial usage. It is also fitted as a military, research and long distance aeroplane. The aircraft has been used on many notable long distance flights, such as the explorer Amundsen's flight to the North Pole in 1925, and Commandant Franco's flight from italy to Brazil in 1926. The "Wal" was also used for the first regular mail service across the South Atlantic. Power Plant: two BMW VI engines - 600 hp. Accommodation for 10 passengers was provided in the forward end of the hull. The hull was divided into water tight compartments with access by water tight doors and where necessary manholes from the exterior.
