Model, scale 1:10, of J.W. Dunne's 'D.8' aeroplane, by Science Museum, Workshops, South Kensington, London, England, 1929
Following the temporary halt to aircraft experiments at Farnborough, Dunne formed the Blair Atholl Aeroplane Syndicate with finance from the Duke of Atholl. The D. 8 was the most successful Dunne Aircraft and in 1913 one flew from the factory at Eastchurch, on the Isle of Sheppey, to Paris. Experience eventually showed that the high level of automatic stability that was a feature of the Dunne aircraft was not so great an advantage as had been thought.
