While lying on the seabed, submarine cables could become home to marine life. This is a section of the 1869 cable laid between France and Canada. It was recovered in 1906, and prepared as a curiousity for the home. It is unlikely that the sample is exactly as it was found, but it demonstrates the kind of sealife that would be found on and around submarine cables.
