Six vulcanite insulators for telegraph wires mounted on short pole, unknown maker, probably British, 1850-1870.
These six vulcanite telegraph wire insulators of various patterns date from the 19th century. Although vulcanite, a preparation of rubber, was an expensive material, it was considered to be more economical than earthenware insulators in areas where stone-throwing was popular.
