Audio trunk cable specimen, 1925-1935
- Made:
- 1925-1935 in Greater London
Telescopic audio cable trunk specimen of four screened pairs plus 352 modern trunk cable, mounted on wood base, made by Standard Telephones and Cables Limited, London, England, 1925-1935.
This is an example of the telephone cables that were being laid across Britain in the 1930s. Trunk cables are large cables laid between major cities. Each cable could carry hundreds of telephone calls. This example is similar to the trunk telephone cable laid between London-Oxford-Kidderminster-Liverpool-Carlisle and Glasgow in 1935-6. It is typical of the best quality telephone cable used at audio frequencies by the British Post Office and other Administrations up to that time.
