Pentex production unit: B switch, made by Plessey Company Limited, England, 1965-1971.
TXE2 systems were introduced in 1966, as a replacement for small and medium Strowger telephone exchanges across the UK. They were intended as a stop-gap until a fully digital exchange system could be developed. They used a form of connector switch called the reed relay. Over 1500 units were installed, the first being at Ambergate in Derbyshire. Pentex was name for TXE2 systems that were not sold to the Post Office. They was used in over 30 countries.
