Embossing telegraph receiver, made by J. H. Bunnell and Co., New York, United States, 1878-1900.
This telegraph receiver worked by impressing marks on a moving paper slip to deliver the incoming message. This method was widely used in Britain in the 1850s but was then supplanted by Morse inkers, which were easier to read.
