Ferguson television receiver, 20", black-and-white, 625-line, hybrid valve/transistor, Model 3821, manufactured 1979
This 625-line model with a hybrid valve/transistor has a 21-inch screen. It was produced by British firm Ferguson, which was taken over by Thorn-EMI who later sold the brand to French-owned Thomson. By the 1970s there were over 10 million black and white television sets in Britain, but colour television had already taken over in popularity with 14 million colour sets in circulation. The continual drop in prices meant that more households than ever before could afford to own more than one television set.
