DICE ("Digital Intercontinental Conversion Equipment") digital field-store standards converter, 1973

In 1972, the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) introduced a digital framestore converter called DICE ("Digital Intercontinental Conversion Equipment") . The equipment converted television content from 525- to 625-line standards and vice versa as well as the field-store standard. It was considered one of Britain's major achievements in the field of television and engineering.

Previous television field-store standards converters were either analogue or involved pointing a camera at the original footage and re-recording it. Either way, image quality was compromised.
