Marconiphone 5-inch tabletop combined television and radio receiver Model 706, 1938; incorporates 'Emiscope' picture-tube (1981-474).

A Marconiphone Model 706 television receiver with a 5 inch screen, from about 1938.

Unusually for a 1930s television, this receiver had a screen that was viewed directly, rather than on a mirror lid. The small, circular 5 inch screen is on the right of the cabinet, with the speaker on the left. It also had a built in radio. Not only was it quite cheap for a pre-war television set (29 guineas), it could also be paid for in installments.
