STC Band I vision/sound transmitter type CG1, 1955-1956, from BBC Sandale transmitter, Cumbria, grid ref NY 266 398
This 405-line VHF television (sound and vision) transmitter was made by Standard Telephones and Cables Limited and used at the BBC transmitter at BBC Sandale, Cumbria from c.1955. A temporary transmitting station with a 100-foot mast first commenced transmission of BBC Television on 405-line VHF in 1956. The station was the second of two medium-power installations built by the BBC to augment their existing 405-line television coverage from Holme Moss across Northern England. In December 1957, a permanent station and 500-foot mast come into service at Sandale.
