The portable Bantam radio was usually carried over the shoulder with a strap. The low power equipment was battery powered and could be used to provide a two-way voice link. The Bantam added to a range of radio telephones developed by Cambridge based company Pye. During the Second World War, Pye had built up a good reputation with the uniformed services, and the Bantam was used by several police forces around the world.
