Pye Model 1108 broadcast receiver, Pye Limited, England, 1966.

The Pye 1108 broadcaster receiver was released in 1966 by British manufacturer Pye Limited. Designed by Robin Day, one of Britain’s most renowned designers of the twentieth century, this model won the Design Council Award in 1966. This table model receiver consisted of a 9 transistor, four wavebands (long, medium, and short wave as well as FM) in a teak veneer cabinet coated in aluminium.

Mostly specialising in portable radio devices since the 1920s, Pye Limited also developed television receivers. The company shifted its domestic production during the Second World War to support the British Army in the development of radio equipment. After the war, Pye Limited turned to music production through Pye Records and later television broadcast equipment through Pye TVT Ld.
