Imperial Model D Standard typewriter, serial number D54307, with cloth cover. This is a later form of the Imperial Model B standard typewriter (Science Museum Group object number 1935-190) and was generally similar in design. Both the Model B and the later Model D were down-strike-from-front class of typewriters. The “Universal” typewriter keyboard had 96 possible characters by double shift and 32 keys.

The Imperial Model D Standard typewriter was first introduced in 1919 and continued to be produced in the 1920s and beyond.
